Republicans managed to successfully flip the U.S. House of Representatives after over a week of waiting.
Major networks called that change in control after Representative Mike Garcia’s race in California put Republicans over the top to achieve the majority.
The GOP’s gain however comes amid a lower than expected showing, and underperforming expectations that many in political circles has set for them. With the smaller majority, Republicans have far less wiggle room than previous majorities, and will rely on nearly every vote to get work done.
In a statement after getting his caucus’s nod to be nominated for Speaker, House GOP leader said “The era of one-party Democrat rule in Washington is over,”
President Biden also issued a statement writing “I congratulate Leader McCarthy on Republicans winning the House majority, and am ready to work with House Republicans to deliver results for working families,”
The win for Republicans wraps up the nearly 2 year long 2022 midterm campaign, just as the 2024 campaign kicks off with Former President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday.
