President Joe Biden has announced that he will drop out of the 2024 election.
The decision comes after weeks of pressure from fellow elected Democrats, and private concerns from allies like former President Barack Obama, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and a dozen other Democrats who publicly called on him to step down.
The move is historic, as it is the first time a sitting President, since President Lyndon Johnson, has dropped out of the presidential election.
In a statement Biden said ” It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Biden is now endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee.
