Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy has been ousted as Speaker of the House after Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) introduced a motion to vacate the Speakership late Monday night.
The vote marks the first time in U.S. history that a Speaker of the House has been removed through such a no-confidence vote.
Until an election for a new Speaker is held, Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC) will act as Speaker pro tempore of the house.
